Diminishing the Gap of Hierarchy: The Evolution of Christian Clothing

Human civilizations have evolved throughout the centuries. And this evolution paved the way to the emergence of industrialization, urbanization and globalization, which eventually affected some special areas in our lives such as our livelihood, culture, tradition, and even religion. Some examples of the most significant changes we have experienced are the improvement of the tools we use (from stones to polymers), the clothes we wear (from animal skin to synthetic fibers), the house we live in (from caves to mansions), etc. And speaking of clothes, we can never ignore the increasing trend nowadays of wearing Christian clothing. Christian clothing includes shirts, caps and other accessories which carry biblical messages on them. A lot of factors have brought the evolution of Christian clothing but the two most prominent of these are none other than human intelligence and imagination.

As human beings are being affected by the evolution, all types of societies and communities are being influenced too. That is, they become more and more vulnerable to outside forces and inevitably become more and more open to new ideas. Communities learn to communicate and share with each other through trade. They exchange valuable products that they think the other party needed the most. Pagan communities gradually became Christians, and barbarian people slowly became refined. And this Christian conversion never cease, as we can see by the gentle conversion movement through Christian clothing. Christian clothing is actually a peaceful way of sharing one's faith with other persons. And Christian clothing is developed to change other people's hearts for the better.

This type of evolution in the community or society does not only happen in large scale; it also happens to small units or groups such as the Church. Perhaps the most important change that happened in the Church is the use of English and other popular languages in preaching and in re-producing the Bible, as a substitute for Latin. This step helped diminish the gap between the clergy and the laity. Another significant change is the modernization of Christian clothes worn especially during Sunday masses. Before, it was the tradition to wear fine clothing during Sunday but now, it is highly encouraged to wear informal clothing. And to encourage this type of Christian clothing, some Christian artists and businessmen targeted the clothing designs. Christian clothing nowadays has urban designs which allow us to wear them anytime, anywhere.

This change to informal Christian clothing most benefits the youth of this generation. They can openly express themselves to others and to their Church community without being look down on. And as a sign of this support for freedom of self-expression through clothing, some businesses are now printing and selling Christian clothing and accessories that will let everyone express their faith no matter what they are wearing. What's more, these youngsters can choose the Christian clothing that best fit their personality and the design that best represent what they believe in.

History of angels and animals in Christian art

Ever wondered why most of the Christian paintings has animals and birds in them? If you analyze Christian painting you will probably notice that how birds and animals are used in art to elucidate different things. Though Jesus was the main subject in Christian paintings, some icons like animals, birds, angels were also used in . Icons are used to represent a number of things in Christian art painting.

The use of animal forms in art has been there since time immemorial. Animals were an easy way to exhibit a virtue or a vice. For instance, a lamb with a Good Shepherd is a demonstration of the earthly life of a Christian soul. Birds were often seen adorning the paintings or being used as a symbol like in Noah's dove, which represents the Christian soul freed from the worldly life by death. Similarly peacock and phoenix were symbolic of immorality and apotheosis.

Apart from depiction of birds and animals, another thing that appeared prominently in Christian art was angels. The use of angels in art was quite evident right from the 4th century A.D. Angels were illustrated as creatures with two wings. They were either depicted as babies or women. Angles as known were symbolic of virtue, good and everything heavenly.

In the early times, Egyptians and Greeks portrayed their gods as creatures with wings. It is said that Greek gods like Hermes and Peruses were depicted as two winged creatures. However, it is interesting to note that in the early Christian art, there were no angels with wings. Instead they were illustrated in the form of human beings dressed in normal human attire like robes.

It is pertinent to mention that depictions of angels were avoided by Christian artists almost till the fourth century. However, after the first Christian Roman emperor, Constantine, angels were seen in art quite often. In fact from early fifth century, some churches were dedicated to the angels.

There is also information about use of female angels in art. Some pagan goddesses were believed to have wings and were thought to behave in angel-like manner. For instance, old pictures of the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, bear a lot of resemblance to a woman with wings.

It is also worth mentioning that majority of the people were not literate at that time. In such a situation use of angels in a drawing or painting was the best way to depict god and his message to humanity. Angels were considered as god's messengers sent on Earth to carry out some duties.

All this information points out that religion had a strong influence on art in those days. And depiction of animals, birds and angels in was just a means to make the common man more aware of the almighty.

2. Sanctus Real - Their albums topped the Christian albums charts all over the world and listeners can't get enough of enjoying their songs and reveling in their mystifying depths.

3. Guy Penrod - Another great Christian album that released this year and enchanted the entire world and glorified the miracles of God. It talks about little nuances of life which make our life special and how one should try savoring these moments.

7. Newsboys – This Christian pop-rock band was founded in Australia and were brought over the U.S. in 1988. Their music has a fun sound to it and makes you happy just listening to it. Some of their greatest hits include "Shine", "Step up to the Microphone", "I'll Be", and "Entertaining Angels".

8. Chris Tomlin – Has a contemporary Christian style and has won Dove awards. He has written or contributed to 5 out 25 songs in the list of Top 25 Worship Songs in 2007. These include "How Great is Our God", "Forever", "Holy is the Lord", "We Fall Down", and "Indescribable".

9. Lifehouse – Is an alternative rock band that has also made it big in the secular world as well as the Christian world of music. Their music is more laid back and focuses on issues of the heart. Some of their most famous songs are "Hanging by a Moment", "You and Me", "Whatever it Takes", and "Broken". Many of their songs have been featured in movies and TV shows.

10. Thousand Foot Crutch – This Canadian Christian rock band was formed in 1997 and have released 5 major albums. They have more of a hard rock sound and their music gets your blood pumping. Christian art -the harbinger of peace and love

When we think of art, we think of Jesus in different poses, angels, messiahs, fairies etc but is it the real Christian art? Then there are different definitions like the art depicting Christianity, religion etc. Further, there are people who believe Christian art is the paintings and sculptures made by the Christian artists. Whatever is the definition or the interpretation, one thing is sure that Christian art has a great value not only because of its beauty but also the message presented through the paintings.

The Christian art has a long history and it began from 70 AD itself. There are many topics that are used in this art form. Thanks to there not getting loads of Christian musicians those albums were getting released to try and fill a void. This is a problem that many fledgling music genres observe. Were these artists honestly trying to deliver Christ's message or trying to create a fast greenback? Just God know what's within the heart of man.

All the dubious bands had been rapidly overtaken by authentic talents. Christian musicians akin to Petra, an early pioneer in Christian rock formed in 1972, started in order to gain attractiveness inside the eighties. Petra essentially set all the bar for impending Christian musicians. The possible top quality of God songs being launched by Christian artists really started to improve. Large numbers of most people were coming across top quality Christian music that fit their tastes.

Petra's approval maintained well into those 90s. A growing number of kinds had been getting integrated into Christian music. DC Talk went from Christian hip hop to a lot more of a grunge sound. T- Bone started out to release a Christian alternative to gangsta rap. All of the 90s had been the beginnings of a great time in Christian music. Today Christian music may be a widely accepted and even well known music genre. All the style has grown right along with different well known music. Artists just like Jars of Clay release albums that will debut on the billboard mainstream charts. Christian music singers star in feature films akin to T- Bone in "The Fighting Temptations. " God songs can be often presented in well known mainstream TV shows. There'll generally exist detractors, but this should not discourage individuals from finding out about god songs.

There is really no time like the present to check out God songs for your album collection. I personally have quite a large collection of Christian music. Christian songs are not the only songs I listen to. I just feel a good Christian song tends to set my mood in to a better place.
